Camera club members hone their skills

October 2011

Amateur photographers are honing their skills, thanks to Knaresborough Camera Club’s autumn and winter programme.

Club officials say they have lined up a packed calendar of events that is already bringing out the best in its members and guests.

The latest Wednesday event at the town’s Park Grove Methodist Hall saw members developing their indoor portraiture capabilities. During the session, they explored composition, lighting and use of props.

Club chairman John Minary said: “We’ve pulled out all the stops this year with what is probably our best autumn and winter programme to date and I’m confident that enthusiasts and even professionals will enjoy covering the gamut of photographic tools and techniques.

“The standard of submissions to our competitions shows that members and guests of all levels are growing in confidence. They also appreciate the constructive feedback which they put into practice and often comment on how Knaresborough Camera Club provides an informal environment in which they can learn.”

Over the coming weeks, the club will be focusing on a series of practical and competitive sessions including wildlife, black and white and more portrait photography as well as contests with clubs from the UK and New Zealand. The programme also includes a line up of presentations and workshops by some of the region’s professional photographers.

But the club is also keen to bolster its membership and guest numbers.

John added: “As well as a healthy number of members and guests from the immediate area, we often have potential members and guests travelling from Leeds and Bradford but we want to see more.

“We have a lot to offer particularly with regards to our workshops during which we will explode some of the myths around good photography.”
