Image of the Month: February 2013

Here, members tell the story behind a photo. This month's submission, taken earlier this year by Mark Webster, shows Olympic star Jonathan Brownlee in action. Mark explains.

Running strong ... Jonathan Brownlee

The Yorkshire Athletics Association Cross Country is held at a different venue each year. It quite often attracts an entry of high calibre athletes.

Pictured is Jonathan Brownlee in a rare bit of winter sunshine. He won the Olympic Triathlon Bronze medal and is the current Triathlon World Champion.

Taking sports pictures this time of year is very challenging with low lighting leading to burnouts.

Keeping up a high shutter speed to capture the action leads to lower quality pictures as you have to raise the ISO to compensate.

The plus side is that the light fills the athletes' faces and stops getting shadows in their eyes.
