Image of the Month: July 2015

Scaleber Force by Matthew Webber.

Our image of the month comes from club member Matthew Webber who reminds us of the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales with this dreamy waterfall photograph. Matthew takes up the story:

Scaleber Force, a classic Dales waterfall in limestone country, is located on a small road between Settle and Kirby Malham

When I arrived, the breeze I had experienced earlier on the same day on the limestone pavement above Austwick had increased though for this waterfall it was not a problem as it is shielded from the wind by being in a deep gully.

The waterfall is accessible via a footpath that is steep in places and, after exploring, I decided to focus on the lower section that had a dead tree in front of it that I felt added a great lead in to the image.

I’ve always liked waterfalls and like to get the sense of movement with the milky water and to do that I used a long exposure (using a tripod) helped by adding both a polarising and ND filters to achieve the required effect.

After this shot is as taken and was downloaded from the camera I looked at it in Lightroom but decided to leave it as is.
