Horse racing at Ripon races by Duncan Snell

This great photo was taken by club member Duncan Snell at the first flat meeting of the year at Ripon Races using his Nikon Z6 and Nikon 200-500 f4 lens. Duncan had scouted out this location earlier in the year and this photo was then taken after regaining his sight following months of treatment and numerous pairs of glasses. This enabled him to gain confidence in venturing out again following relative isolation due to the pandemic. The lighting conditions on the day weren't ideal but he still created a great image. He's already planning to return to the racecourse throughout the year for more action images.

Gone fishing, statue of Neptune at Fountains Abbey by Mervin Straughan

This amazing photo of a statue at Fountains Abbey was the well deserved winner of our club Mono competition. The statue has excellent sharpness, detail and exposure and the surroundings and background have been cleverly darkened to remove distracting detail. The offset positioning of the statue and the large area of negative space on the left really add to the composition to make for an excellent photo.
